The Mamou Courir de Mardi Gras headed west of Mamou,
stopping in an open field beside rice paddies, as shown at right. Inevitably, as shown in
the bottom photos on this page, some of the chicken chasing wound up being moved from the
prairie to the rice paddies. Earlier, the
Mardi Gras tried to catch chickens thrown from the roof of a house. One chicken flew
high into the trees, pursuing by a couple of dare-devil Mardi Gras who were willing
literally to go out on a limb. They made it back safely to the ground, ready to enjoy some
boudin and beer. |
